Wall with green ZIP System sheathing, a flashed window opening, and a roof overhang

Rot repair and weatherproofing in Skagit County, WA

Skagit County gets a lot of rain, and when water gets behind siding it rots the sheathing and framing underneath. We open it up, replace the rotted wood, and redo the house wrap and flashing so the wall stays dry.

Where rot usually starts

Rot almost always starts where water gets past the siding and can’t dry out. The usual spots:

  • Under and beside windows and doors
  • Where a roof meets a wall
  • Behind trim and corner boards
  • At the bottom of walls, close to the ground or a deck

Fix the leak, not just the wood

Replacing rotted wood without fixing how the water got in just means doing it again in a few years. We find where the water came from, replace the rotted sheathing and framing, and then redo the house wrap and flashing around it so it stays dry.

Framers doing the repair

Since we frame houses, we can repair rotted framing, not just patch the sheathing over it. When the repair is done, we close it up with new siding and trim. If the siding is worn out too, we can replace all of it at the same time.

Questions

Rot repair & weatherproofing questions.

Can't find your answer? Call (360) 523-8054 or send us the form below.

How can I tell if there's rot behind my siding?

Soft spots, bubbling or peeling paint, stains inside near windows, and a musty smell are common signs. The only way to know for sure is to open it up, and we can look at it when we come out for the estimate.

Can you fix the rot and replace the siding at the same time?

Yes. That's often the best time to do it, since the old siding is already off. See our siding replacement page for how that works.

Do you give free estimates?

Yes. Call or send the form below and we will set up a time to look at the job.
